Background to our team
Welcome to Railway Project Services. We are an SME consultancy founded in 2017 by our Managing Director – Joe Whalen.
Since then, we have grown to nearly twenty people and have earned awards from the Railway Industry Association, Federation on Small Businesses and Young Railway Professionals. We pride ourselves on being a small and agile organisation flexible to the needs of our Clients.
The work we do broadly comprises three specialisms:
1) Project Management for railway Clients
2) Precontract services including Bid Management and graphics
3) Bespoke services for the rail industry including risk management, commercial management, safety management and various other bespoke outputs
Our Client base includes Network Rail, West Midlands Trains and leading Tier One Contractors such as Morgan Sindall and Graham Group.
Core to our success is our organisation’s behaviours – when we deliver projects we are pro-active, output-focussed and work to remove project blockers for all stakeholders wherever possible.
Demand for our Project Management service is growing and we are supporting clients primarily in the Midlands.
We look for self-starters with a strong work ethic. People who have an inquisitive nature, and aren’t afraid to challenge how things are done.
You’ll need good organisation skills and an eye for detail with a calm and pragmatic approach to solving problems.
More than anything we need team players who have the ability to work with others and understand the point of view of others.
This role will be primarily based in the West Midlands but the nature of a graduate role as well as working within a small consultancy business will involve you moving between clients anywhere from London to York so you’ll need to be flexible, and not mind travelling.
What you’ll be doing
Working as a Graduate Project Manager, your experience will be varied. You’ll have the opportunity to explore commercial, safety, and risk & opportunity management techniques while gaining exposure across functions including Construction, Planning, Strategy, Operations and Estimating.
Contributing to exciting projects, you’ll prepare presentations and reports, manage contracts, and build relationships with stakeholders. You’ll gain basic engineering knowledge along the way. In particular, you’ll sharpen your interpersonal skills, enabling you to communicate with people at all levels, and ensure everything stays on track for success.
In addition to all of this, you’ll undertake various training programmes including Association for Project Management, Construction Design Management , Rail Basics (Chartered Institute of Railway Operators), First Aid, Fire Marshal and CSCS.
